This surprise proposal at Lake Minnewanka was one of those moments that perfectly captures why I love being a Banff proposal photographer.

We planned everything in advance — choosing a quiet lakeside spot with stunning mountain views in Banff National Park, and timing it for soft, natural light. As they walked along the shoreline, completely immersed in the beauty of the Rockies, she had no idea what was about to happen.

Then, in a simple and genuine moment, he got down on one knee.

Her reaction was immediate — surprise, emotion, and pure joy. These are the moments you can’t recreate, and exactly why documenting proposals is so meaningful.

I photographed everything from a distance using a long lens, allowing the moment to unfold naturally without interruption. After the proposal, we explored more of Lake Minnewanka for a relaxed engagement session, capturing authentic connection, laughter, and the excitement of this new chapter.

Lake Minnewanka is one of the best locations for a proposal in Banff. With its expansive mountain views, peaceful shoreline, and easy access, it offers the perfect balance between adventure and intimacy.
